Nursing Logic: Modules 3 & 4

These last two modules of the Nursing Logic Tutorials were even more beneficial than the first two as I feel these dove a bit deeper into each subject and were more detailed.

Module 3 provided the framework of nursing knowledge and clinical judgement, as well as further investigated how these two concepts incorporate with one another. In order to become a competent, successful nurse, one must embody the required knowledge, skills, and attitudes as well the ability to use this information to make an educated decision on how best to care for a patient. At this stage of my nursing career as a student, I am still learning the basic concepts of nursing knowledge and therefore focused more on this aspect of the module. There was a lot of information regarding learning styles and how to best utilize the tools and resources provided to best suite each style of learning. I have always found myself to be a visual learner in the past and have therefore benefitted from reading textbooks and taking detailed notes. However, over the past couple of months, I can also recognize the benefits of tactile learning. Skills lab, simulation lab, and clinical have greatly improved my knowledge basis and concepts of nursing. While I will continue to reinforce my visual learning style, I will also focus on tactile learning by practicing skills hands on. My awareness of learning styles will provide the knowledge base required to become a proficient nurse and will therefore allow me to better integrate into the nursing culture.

Module 4, on the other hand, focused on the different structures of priority setting as a nurse. Some of these include Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the Nursing Process, ABC, Safety and Risk Reduction, Least Restrictive and Least Invasive, and Survival Potential. While I have been exposed to each of these concepts, this module was useful in that it provided a more detailed explanation of each topic with examples. I found the information regarding Safety and Risk Reduction and the Least Restrictive/Least Invasive concepts to be the most useful. This first concept gives priority to any situation in which the patient’s physical or psychological well being is at risk. While the latter concept focuses on nursing interventions that are the least restrictive and/or the least invasive. Both of these approaches are similar in that they look at the bigger picture of the patient’s current state of health and plan the nursing actions accordingly. As a future nurse, I hope to utilize these frameworks as an assessment tool for each patient to decipher the best nursing interventions in order to give my patients the most timely, effective care they deserve.

Very nice reflection; focused on how you will use the information in providing care and that is exactly why this assignment is provided. Good work.
