NSG 342 Pharmacology

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course focuses on pharmacologic agents and principles, emphasizing the nurse’s role in medication therapy for individuals, families, and communities. Legal and ethical responsibilities associated with the use of medications are examined. Quality and safety concepts related to pharmacotherapy are integrated throughout the course, focusing on the nursing process and clinical reasoning.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  1. Demonstrate clinical judgment necessary for safe medication administration to improve health outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.
  2. Demonstrate use of information technology to identify mechanism of action, therapeutic uses, adverse effects, and nursing implications.
  3. Recognize the nurse’s role and responsibilities to ensure safe medication management using the nursing process.
  4. Demonstrate effective interprofessional communication and collaboration for optimal medication management.
  5. Integrate professional values, cultural sensitivity, and client-centered care with safe medication practices.
